Salt Hotels in Salar de Uyuni - Bolivia

Salar de Uyuni attracts tourists from around the world. As it is located
far from the cities, a number of hotels have been built for
accommodation. Due to lack of conventional construction materials, many
of them are almost entirely built with salt blocks cut from the Salar -
including walls, roof and furniture. The first such hotel, Hotel de Sal
Playa, was erected in 1993-1995 in the middle of the salt flat, and
soon became a popular tourist destination. Many more hotels and hostels
made out of salt were constructed later. Hotel de Sal Playa was
previously covered on Amusing Planet.

Warm Regards,

Tetris is a
puzzle video game originally designed and programmed by Alexey Pajitnov
in the Soviet Union. It was released on June 6, 1984. Tetris is still
very popular even in real life.

Springtime in Holland

Posted by: "Aditya chaudhari" adi_love44u@yahoo.com   adi_love44u

SPRING like you have never seen it before !

Keukenhof  know as the
Garden of Europe is the one of the best places to view the abundance of
spring flowers in the South Holland region of the Netherlands

Amsterdam's flower market the Bloemenmarkt reflects the country's passion for cut flowers and plants

Around seven million bulbs are planted each year in the park at Keukenhof, in an area of 32 hectares

The Bloemenmarkt - set on
the capital's Singel canal and said to be the world's only floating
flower market - has a score of stalls where you can buy all sorts of
plants, flowers, bulbs and seeds
The mild climate of Holland , with its wet springs makes it an ideal place for bulb cultivation

Tulips originated in the east and were brought to Holland from the Ottoman Empire in the mid 1500s

In springtime, the lowland
area by the North Sea is carpeted with fields of gladioli, hyacinths,
lilies, daffodils, crocuses... and, of course, tulips

Keukenhof - literally 'kitchen garden' - is part of the hunting grounds of the ancient Teylingen estate

This year, the theme for the Keukenhof exhibition is Germany: Land of Poets and Philosophers

The patchwork quilt of colours in the Keukenhof park, just outside Lisse in South Holland , is a veritable feast for the eyes

The bulbs of Keukenhof are
re-planted each year according to the current trends and in
collaboration with a number of gardening magazines

Spring in Keukenhof is one of the main tourist attractions of the Netherlands

The best way to
appreciate the full glory of the Dutch spring is to hire a bike and
cycle one of the tourist routes among the bulb fields

Warm Regards,

Aditya C

The Makerie studio (Julie Wilkinson and Joyanne Horscroft) have made a number of an elegant,  intricate paper sculptures.

Top: “The White Omar is a piece that explores
the structure and form of patterns and shapes previously developed for
an existing piece, The Great Omar, as a way of stripping back colour to
highlight contours and light play across the surfaces. Currently being
developed as a centre piece for a London boutique display.”

“Medusa â€" Detailed jellyfish sculpture
designed for Arjowiggins Creative Papers using their ‘Curious
Collection.’ The exceptional qualities of the papers highlight and
explore the nervous complexity and exquisite elegance of jellyfish.”

“Atlas â€" Life-size reproduction of a Whet
Owl, created using papers printed with antique world atlases, provided
by Carteria Tassotti Milano. The owl is finished using gold plated
sheeting and black Swarowski crystals, with a base made from solid
Italian oak.”

“The Great Omar Peacock â€" Life size
reproduction of a peacock inspired by the cover of ‘The Great Omar,’ a
collection of Persian poems known as the most precious volume ever
bound. The sculpture was produced for London paper merchants Shepherds
Bookbinders using papers from their range, and is currently displayed in
their Holborn store.”

A portrait of Amy Winehouse made of pills. Using
5,000 multicoloured tablets, artist Jason Mecier created
the 17 x 21 inch picture to honour the singer's short life.
He creates his portraits of celebrities using junk, pills and sweets.
Jason sometimes uses items donated by the stars themselves
to complete his pieces. Jason explains: "Celebrities really do
send me items. Most people send me anywhere from a
shoebox to a trash bag full of things to incorporate into
their portraits. I have a bag of Pam Anderson's laundry,
and a letter Paris Hilton wrote me from prison."

Jason says his Lady Gaga portrait "has some Hello Kitty
merchandise that was used in her famous photo shoot.
"He says his portraits take at least 50 hours, but many take
much, much longer - Lady Gaga took him almost two months
and hundreds of hours.

The San Francisco artist builds collages from unusual materials
that he feels suit the personality or life of the subject. His portrait
of Michael Jackson is made from thousands of pills

The stars are sometimes so flattered by the trash treatment
that they buy their own portraits -
which start at $1,500. Rosie O'Donnell bought
this picture of her made out of food

Pink was so impressed with her portrait that she bought it and
used it in her music video for Please Don't Leave Me
