Another one of my favorite photos of Brittney. She's about nine or ten years old here,
with a look of such intensity, beauty, and fierce intelligence that it just takes my breath
away.

1. because she is my first and superior child.
2. because she is such a patient and loving and indulgent sister to her two younger siblings (aka my second and superior child and my third and superior child).
3. big. brown. eyes.
4. her innate and finely honed sense of fashion which began at approximately age four, when she informed me that she hated pink and she hated dresses and she would no longer wear anything in either of those two categories if I bought them for her.
5. her big heart and generosity of spirit
6. I've never heard her say anything bad about anybody, and she always gives everyone the benefit of the doubt, even when they obviously don't deserve it.
7. she's quite modest about the fact that she's good at everything.

9. and the fact that she can put me in my place in a split-second when I get too smug, and make me laugh hysterically while she's doing it.

20. her innate poise and dignity, which so neatly balances her inner goofballness.
